Recognizing that a hand up is more important than a hand out, GCL works closely with parents to help increase family income and security. Many parents run very small businesses, selling items such as charcoal, vegetables or shoes. Some mothers do laundry at home or raise chickens or rabbits to sell. With little education, it can be difficult to calculate expenses, profits, etc. GCL works one-on-one with parents, helping them set up ledgers and provide other support. GCL also gives very small grants, usually less than $50, to help parents built their small businesses.
